2001 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It is a remarkably easy car to drive and every aspect of it is user friendly. Not surprisingly, accord has been one of america's best-selling cars for the past 10 years. but we suspect that most people buy accords for their legendary reliability. An entire generation has grown up with hondas, and 26 years of accords have proven the model to be a safe choice, a car that a family can buy and more or less forget, turning their attention back to the other concerns of a daily life. for 2001, all accords feature honda's patented dual-stage inflator airbag technology, which automatically adjusts the deployment of the front passenger airbag based on the severity of the crash and whether seatbelts are being worn. They are nearly identical from an engineering standpoint, though the coupe features some performance tweaks designed to make it more fun to drive trim levels and pricing for sedan and coupe are nearly identical. Each comes in lx 18,540) and ex 21,050) trim levels. Only the sedan is available as a dx base model 15,350). Dx comes with a 135-horsepower version (lower compression ratio and sans-vtec) of the same engine. Ex v-6 comes loaded with leather seating surfaces, woodgrain trim, automatic climate control and a programmable homelink universal remote control. The nose is short, and the hood and cowl are low, which complement the glassy cabin to provide excellent visibility from inside. honda designed the coupe to have its own identity, enhanced for 2001 by a more aggressive look to the bumpers, a body-colored front grille, and new alloy wheel designs. As before, only its headlights and door handles are shared with the sedan. The coupe is a handsome car, and a good choice for busy executives who want a car that is both sporty and practical. interiorhonda used airline business-class seating as a model for the accord interior, which is a marvel of space efficiency. The front seats are wide and comfortable and there's a surprising amount of room for rear seat passengers. A homelink remote control system can be programmed to open garage doors, turn on house lights and turn off security systems. The air conditioning system, designed to quickly cool the car down after getting in on a hot day, uses an air filtration system to keep pollen out and reduce diesel fumes from buses and trucks. driving impressionaccord is an easy car to drive. It corners well, with steering that's light and precise. Handling on bumpy roads is incredibly good; a series of big bumps in the middle of a turn hardly affects the accord's direction at all. The suspension damps out the bumps and keeps the tires planted on the road. This handling balance is a benefit of the accord's strong chassis and double-wishbone front and rear suspensions. At the handling limit, it tends toward understeer - the front tires lose grip before the rear tires. Blasting up and down a rough, twisting back road, we explored the limits of handling, power and braking. The camry offered superb damping over the rippled pavement and the malibu surprised us with its handling prowess. The accord provided the sharpest transient response - turning left, then right, then left again. The accord also had the best brakes. in cruise mode, the 3. 0-liter v6 engine just purrs along, barely audible. It's so smooth and so quiet that sometimes a glance at the tachometer is required to confirm that it's running. Stomp on the throttle and it growls with the authority of a free-breathing cylinder head. This engine delivers lots of power for merging into traffic or entertaining its driver. A single-overhead-cam v6 , it is equipped with honda's vtec (variable valve timing and valve lift electronic control) system, and tuned to deliver optimum torque over a broad rev range. It's smooth, powerful and efficient, generating 150 horsepower at 5700 rpm. An accord equipped with this engine is a great package that deserves consideration by anyone shopping for a roomy mid-size car that excels in quality, durability, reliability, smoothness, ride quality, practicality and fuel efficiency. all 2001 accords sold nationwide meet or exceed california's low emissions vehicle (lev) standard, regardless of engine. 1999 jeep grand cherokee review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Do this in jeep's redesigned '99 grand cherokee limited and it takes off a bit slower than last year's model. Part of the reason is that the old 5. 2-liter v8 engine has been replaced with an all-new 4. 7-liter overhead cam v8. The minor loss in acceleration is offset by the refinement of the new engine. It accelerates smoothly, with none of the mechanical grumbling and rude roaring of the previous 5. 2-liter and 5. 9-liter engines. We'd call the big jeep more mature. walkaroundthe new jeep grand cherokee is 3 inches longer than the one it replaces, but its wheelbase is the same. It looks taller, bowed on top with a forehead look to the front of the roof. Its round lines look like paul bunyan took his sanding block to the previous sharp body creases. underneath, the grand cherokee still sits atop live axles, like the previous model. The trend among competing sport-utilities is to use independent suspensions, but jeep's live axle is only a drawback on paper, as we note later. The jeep retains its unibody integrated truck frame-and-body design. This rare design strategy -- shared by the smaller jeep cherokee and the nissan pathfinder -- results in a grand cherokee that is lighter and more rigid than it would be using more traditional designs. With adjustments for similar equipment, jeep says the new grand cherokee is about 50 pounds lighter overall. Less weight and a tighter turning radius help make the bigger jeep more maneuverable. two engines are offered. Jeep's 4. 0-liter inline-6 has been re-engineered for 1999. It's quieter, cleaner and more powerful, producing 195 horsepower -- up 10 horsepower from last year. a new 4. 7-liter v8 is optional. With single overhead cams on each cylinder bank, it produces 235 horsepower, or 15 horsepower more than the previous 5. 2-liter pushrod v8. Torque is down slightly, which accounts for the diminished acceleration. two familiar trim levels are available, laredo and limited, each with a long list of standard features. base grand cherokees come with rear-wheel drive, but that seems like buying a louisville slugger just to hit rocks. Its simple but effective automatic locking center differential apportions torque to the front wheels whenever the rear wheels slip. the quadra-drive system is optional on both the 6-cylinder and v8 models. Quadra-drive is the same system as quadra-trac ii, but it adds hydraulically locking front and rear differentials. By using three differentials, the system automatically sends torque front-to-rear and side-to-side whenever a wheel slips. And all three systems come with a low-range set of gears that can be used for serious traction situations. interiorrear legroom is tight. Climbing into the back seats is much easier than before, however, because the rear doors are wider. more space is available for cargo because the spare tire was moved from its upright position on the left rear side of the cargo compartment to lay down under the load floor. Part of that impression comes from the high seating position. Controls and switches have been improved in feel and operation, including the jeep's once-balky turn signal/wiper combination stalk. the front seats have highly padded longitudinal ribs, and the thickness of the padding reminds us more of house furniture instead of serious off-roader benches. But no news is good news here. Off-road, or driving down a bumpy, rutted rural lane, the jeep feels controlled and steady. The price for this capability is a tall, body-rolling ride. There's no need to slow down for rough railroad crossings in the grand cherokee. steering is quick but isolated, despite a thorough restructuring of the front engine cradle and front suspension and steering component mounts. But that's the same for all of the top-selling sport-utilities. Like them, the jeep's still a truck, sitting tall, rolling side to side in corners and high winds. the biggest improvement in the ride of the new grand cherokee is a newfound tendency to stay pointed straight ahead. A triangle link that replaces the panhard rod locating the rear axle is directly responsible for this improvement. careful tuning of suspension mounts, and even drivetrain mounts, allows the live axles of the jeep a lot of compliant movement. The axles move and pivot on large bumps and dirt holes where the independent suspensions of other suvs reach their limits of travel, and ultimately toss the occupants about inside. power is adequate with the new v8 and, aided by relatively light weight, the jeep feels faster and more responsive than most 6-cylinder suvs and the huge v8 tahoes and expeditions. One reason the spare was relocated to under the load floor was to give more visibility rearward. That's what it did for us. The grand cherokee requires fewer try-and-fail attempts to conquer obstacles. It's tougher to upset than any high-volume wagon (hummers and land rovers excepted).
